This medicine contains the active ingredient Orlistat which is an anti-obesity medicine. This medicine impedes the digestion of fats that enter our body through food by connecting to lipases (enzymes that perform essential roles in the digestion) and disabling them to resolve the fats. Orlistat is prescribed for the treatment of obesity.
Is Orlistat suitable for me?
Orlistat is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it
- If you are allergic to Orlistat or other ingredients of this medicine
- if you have chronic malabsorption syndrome
- if you have liver disorder
- if you are breast-feeding
In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:
- are pregnant, trying for a baby or breast-feeding
- have kidney problems
Orlistat interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Orlistat?
This medicine is available in form of a capsule.
You should take Orlistat exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The usual dose is one 120 mg capsule taken three time a day (with every of the three main meals per day). Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose. What are Orlistat side effects?
Like all medicines Orlistat can cause side effects, including:
- abdominal pain/discomfort,
- urgent or increased need to open the bowels,
- oily discharge, oily or fatty stools,
- liquid stools,
- low blood sugar levels
- Rectal pain/discomfort,
- soft stools,
- tooth/gum disorder,
- irregularity of menstrual cycle,
