Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is a water soluble vitamin, and in organism it is a part of various metabolic processes. Sodium ascorbate consists of a combination of sodium and vitamin C. These substances have a significant role in the construction of different tissues (skin, bones, teeth, cartilage, tendons, blood vessels), and are entered through food because the human body is unable to synthesize it. Product information

This medicine contains ascorbic acid (vitamin C) which is a water soluble vitamin, and in organism it is a part of various metabolic processes. It has a significant role in the construction of different tissues (skin, bones, teeth, cartilage, tendons, blood vessels), and it is entered through food because the human body is unable to synthesize it.

Vitamin C is used for the prevention and treatment of scurvy and lack of vitamin C in the body (hypovitaminosis).

Is Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) suitable for me?

Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance, ascorbic acid, or any other ingredient of this medicine.
  • if you have kidney stones.

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

  • if you have kidney stones
  • if you have a deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (an inherited metabolic disorder of red blood cells)
  • if you have hemochromatosis (a disorder of iron metabolism that is reflected in the increased disposal of iron), sideroblastic anemia, thalassemia (hereditary disorder of structure of hemoglobin)
  • if you have diabetes

Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Ascorbic acid (vitamin C)?

This medicine is available in form of a chewable tablet.  

You should take ascorbic acid (vitamin C) exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The dose will be determined according to your age, weight and condition.​

  • For adults and adolescents, the recommended dosage is one tablet daily.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) side effects?

Like all medicines ascorbic acid (vitamin C) can cause side effects, including:

  • diarrhea
  • nausea, vomiting
  • heartburn
  • stomach cramps
  • skin redness
  • headache and insomnia
  • hyperoxaluria (high levels of oxalate in the urine)
  • occurrence of renal oxalate stones
