Psychotherapy, medications, and even surgery are used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The treatment depends, first of all, on its cause.
At the very beginning it is necessary to find out what is causing it and then determine the treatment. That is why erectile dysfunction requires a multidisciplinary approach. Treatment should be left to specialists, urologists, and sexologists.
If erectile dysfunction is caused by psychological factors, psychotherapeutic methods are used. As a rule, treatment should be carried out in pairs (treating a man and his partner). Part of the therapy is always focused on improving communication between partners (particular ways of communicating the sexual needs - for example, how to make your partner know that something excites you and suits you); a part of the therapy consists of specific tasks that are assigned to partners. It should be emphasized that these tasks partners implement at home, and that they are just talked about at the sessions. These tasks consist in exploring their own bodies and bodies of partners and learning some skills to enjoy sexual intercourse.
If the cause is chronic diseases, such as diabetes and atherosclerosis, then the treatment of impotence is connected to the treatment of the underlying disease. One should introduce adequate nutrition, increase physical activity, quit smoking and, in the case of alcoholism, stop drinking alcohol. One should reduce the intake of fat, bacon, cured meats, intestines and increase the intake of olive oil, fish, poultry without skin, and red meat in smaller amounts. Also, one should take skimmed milk, low fat yogurt and cheese.
Erectile dysfunction can be treated with the medicines. They act on the circulation and promote erections, and those are medicines as sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis) and vardenafil (Levitra). They only act together with sexual stimulation, i.e. erection is not caused by itself. They can be used only at doctor's recommendation. Our affiliated doctors, after short consultation, will recommend the best product for you! They must not be used by people suffering from cardiovascular disease. It should be noted that the medicine does not start to work immediately, but takes 20-60 minutes, depending on several factors (when a man has eaten, his metabolism, interactions with other medicines), which also should be considered. One of those medicines is apomorphine (Apokyn). It acts on the central nervous system enhancing erectile impulses that emanate from it, and occur during sexual stimulation. This medicine is safer compared to the previous medicines, but it can only be used on medical advice.

Application of certain substances (alprostadil) into the urethra is another way of treating erectile dysfunction. Side effects are urinary tract infections, bleeding from the urethra, priapism (erection that without stimulation lasts longer than 4 hours) and fibrosis of the penis.
Vacuum pumps provide blood flow necessary for an erection, which is maintained by placing the ring on the base of the penis. It is more often used by elderly, especially because they often have contraindications when taking medicines. Vacuum pumps can sometimes cause pain and inability to ejaculate. They must not be used in those who have anticoagulant therapy and bleeding disorders.
One of the options is the injection which is administered to the side of the penis (the corpus cavernosum). It is recommended to married men and those who have a stable relationship, because they require understanding from the partner. Side effects can be pain during the sting and priapism. It should not be used with bleeding disorders and hypersensitivity to alprostadil.
Men who cannot or do not want to take medicines can surgically implant penile prosthesis. There are two types of penile prostheses: maleabilne (semi-rigid) and inflatabilne (binary and ternary).
